Goals
|
To provide families with a top quality individualized
education for their child struggling with learning problems.
To establish learning environment focused on the whole
child, including emotional and social growth.
To provide a true partnership between the school and
parents, it is critical that parents are kept abreast of all aspects of
their child’s day. Parents must experience a cooperative atmosphere
whereby they feel welcomed to discuss all concerns and questions as they
arise.
Harbor School is appropriate for students who do not
thrive in larger settings and/or whose main obstacle to learning stems
from a learning disability or different learning style not addressed in
typical learning environments. We help establish and maintain a healthy
self-image within each child. Most students with learning difficulties
have not had many positive experiences during their academic lives. A
healthy self-esteem for a child includes being praised, being spoken to
respectfully, having trust worthy relationships, being listened to and
experiencing success in school.
Planning for the future: Educational programs must
provide each student with an appropriate curriculum designed toward
successfully main-streaming them in the future. The content for each
grade level must provide the child with the same material that all
children are receiving regardless of school and geographical location.
